News reports indicate that Minneapolis Police Dept. has announced that a woman named "Lesly Vera," a Somali citizen and a native of Somalia, was sworn in on Thursday as that Minnesota police department’s first non-citizen officer. The PO recruit Vera was seen at the swearing-in ceremony wearing a hijab over her head as she took the oath of office and given her police badge by local authorities.
Minnesota created the opportunity for Ms. Vera to join the Minneapolis PD last year, when the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) adopted new rules that allowed law enforcement agencies throughout Minnesota to elevate non-citizens to the role of police officer. Since then, the U.S. citizenship requirement was dropped; and now, applicants only need to show a legal residency, and be cleared to work in the U.S. to be handed a gun and badge, and given full policing authority over native born U.S. citizens in Minnesota.
Minnesota is not the only place in America working to allow non-citizens to become police officers in the states and localities >>> Democrat-controlled California, Colorado, and Illinois are also crafting legislation to grant non-citizen migrants local police authority over everybody.
